The Ancient World, Still Standing
Egypt is home to the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. The Great Pyramid of Giza has stood for 4,500 years and remains the largest stone structure ever built. Alongside it: the Sphinx, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, the Valley of the Kings where Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered intact in 1922, and the temples of Abu Simbel carved into a Nubian cliff face by Ramesses II. No other destination on earth concentrates this density of genuine world-class antiquity in one country.
The Nile
The Nile is not a backdrop — it is the reason Egypt exists. The river has sustained human civilisation here for over 7,000 years and travelling along it, whether by traditional felucca sailboat or a comfortable cruise ship between Luxor and Aswan, gives a perspective on Egyptian history that no museum can replicate. The temples and tombs were built to face the Nile deliberately. Seeing them from the water is the correct way to see them.
The Red Sea
Egypt's Red Sea coast — Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab — offers some of the finest diving and snorkelling in the world. The coral reefs here are among the most biodiverse in any sea, the water is warm year-round, and visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. For travelers who want to combine ancient history with beach and water, Egypt does both within the same trip.
Cairo, A City That Never Stops
Cairo is one of the great megacities of the world — chaotic, overwhelming, magnificent, and unlike anywhere else. The Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened in November 2025, is the largest archaeological museum ever built and displays the complete Tutankhamun collection for the first time in history. Islamic Cairo's medieval mosques, minarets, and markets have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Khan el-Khalili bazaar has been trading since the 14th century.

The Pyramids of Giza & the Sphinx
The last surviving wonder of the ancient world and the most recognisable monuments on earth. Standing at the base of the Great Pyramid — understanding for the first time that each stone block is taller than a person — recalibrates your sense of what human civilisation is capable of. Visit at dawn before the heat and crowds build.
Luxor & the Valley of the Kings
Luxor sits on the site of ancient Thebes, capital of Egypt's New Kingdom pharaohs. The east bank holds the temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor — connected by the Avenue of Sphinxes — while the west bank holds the Valley of the Kings, where 63 royal tombs were cut into the limestone cliffs. Allow two full days minimum.
The Grand Egyptian Museum
Opened in November 2025 near the Giza plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest archaeological museum ever built. The complete Tutankhamun collection — over 5,000 objects including the golden death mask — is displayed here in full for the first time in history. Abu Simbel
Two temples carved directly into a sandstone cliff by Ramesses II in the 13th century BC — and relocated entirely in the 1960s to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Requires either a flight from Aswan or an early morning convoy drive, but it is worth every effort.
